BUYER BEWARE
Alberta has become a hotbed of "BackYard"
Breeders.
All claim to have "Quality" Dogs and prices vary from $300.00
to over $2,500.
Make sure that the breeder you choose to purchase your puppy from
is not
a "For Profit" "BackYard" or "Puppy Mill"
Breeder.
A responsible Breeder always has some involvement with dog sports and
is active
at a local Dog Club Level.
Pet Store Puppies are ALWAYS poor
breeding stock !
What is their definition of
"Quality"?
And what achievements or titles do their dogs have?
Why did they breed this litter?
And "Honestly - How many litters a year do they actually breed !)
Beware of the "Old Style" label = poor conformation usually.
Believe it or not - but some "Breeders" only claim to having a
quality puppy - is that they
do not compete in anything !!!
Dogs worthy of breeding should
have some titles or awards to show that the
Breeder does something other than "Breed for Income".
A responsible Breeder always tries to achieve the AKC / CKC Standard.
Extra big , extra small, or under angulated, maybe subject
to their
own medical issues due to excessive size or lack there of.
Being able to see both parents is not always a good thing.
Seldom will a good breeder have two dogs with compatible blood lines
that can
produce a perfect litter.
It usually means they are breeding whatever is in their back yard some
for convenience and others for income/profit.
We do purchase superior breeding stock outside of our own lines
to improve our breeding program.
Multiple untitled females bred routinely to the in resident untitled
male is a
common practice of Back Yard breeders / Puppy Mills.
There may be a good reason to have both parents - however you need to
ask the
right questions.
Families are lured by the promise of "More to choose from" or by
"Pick your own Puppy".
This should be a warning that they do not breed to improve.
A good breeder will try to match each puppies personality as carefully
as
possible with a compatible family.
All litters should be temperament tested.
Once a back yard breeder has your money - it is never refundable.
